Completa: Baby Placket-Neck Pullover

Pattern: Placket-Neck Pullover from Last Minute Knitted Gifts
Size: 0-6 months
Yarn: Louet Gems Opal in Fern Green, less than 1 skein
Materials: 16" US7 Clover bamboo circulars; vintage blue buttons
Start to Finish: May 14-20, 2007

Mods: The pattern called for three beads to be sewn on and pushed through the seed-stitch placket, but I think that just looks cheap. I created 3 yarnover/k2tog buttonholes on rows 4, 12, and 20 of the placket, then sewed the buttons on the other side behind them. Personally, I think this looks much more finished. The buttons are not 100% centered on the placket -- there are three rows below the first buttonhole and 6 above the last one -- but I meant to do this. I wanted there to be a tiny little bit of collar flop at the top.

Notes: The pattern calls for 3 skeins of Koigu Kersti -- that's 342 yards and $36! My Placket-Neck pullover was made with MUCH less than one skein of machine washable and dryable Louet Gems Opal, which I got for $12.50. That seems much more reasonable to me for a baby sweater. A full skein, according to the label, contains 225 yards and I would say I used about 150 for this sweater. I do wonder why my yardage was so off, as my sweater came out to the exact measurements of the pattern, but I'm certainly not complaining.

This will be packed up and sent to its future owner's mama very soon. I can't tell her about the blog until then!
