Res Completae: Toast, Waves, Hanami

In going through my Flickr photostream last week whilst updating my sidebar thumbnail bookmark thingies, I realized that I had left three projects of 2008 unblogged. They were all gifts that were purposefully unblogged at first, then unfortunately forgotten. For the purposes of offering a complete set of 2008 Yarniad Res Completae, I blog them now...

Pattern: Hanami Stole, by Melanie Gibbons
Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash, 6 skeins of a natural, off-white, ivory color
Needles: US 8 circs
Start to finish: July 17 - August 7, 2008

Mods and Notes: I fell in love with the Hanami Stole pattern when first I laid eyes upon it, however I just couldn't stop imagining it as a blanket. Using a worsted weight yarn, I knit the "basketweave only" version of the stole, doing 7 repeats of the center section of the pattern horizontally and 11.5 repeats vertically (I stopped at line 16). The end product was a little larger than 40"x60" and was very hard to part with. (P.S. I took this on a cross-country trip and I must say that blankets do not make the best travel-knitting projects).

Next up...

Pattern: Toast, from A Friend to Knit With
Yarn: ~80% skein of Harrisville Designs New England Shetland in Shetland Charcoal (color 49)
Needles: US 4 dpns
Start to Finish: October 26 - November 1, 2008

Mods and Notes: Toast (along with its sister Toasty) is the most perfect, cozy, autumny, gifty pattern ever! I knit them up on a lighter weight yarn than was called for and, though I liked the result, they'd be even cozier made with some Malabrigo or other soft and snuggly yarn.

And finally...

Pattern: Japanske bølger (Japanese Waves), by Nanna Gudmand-Høyer
Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine, 1 complete skein of color 1275
Needles: US 4 circs, bamboo to keep the slippery alpaca yarn from sliding off
Start to Finish: October 9 - 15, 2008

Mods and Notes: No mods - all was knitted to spec. The pattern was easy to memorize and fun to execute...it was like a feather and fan pattern, but all in garter stitch. It would have been nice to make this a bit longer, but I (the recipient, too, I hope) like the look of a shorter scarf as well.

Now I just need to write up that Bohus, and I can finally close the books on 2008!

The Hanami blanket is so gorgeous that I literally gasped (aloud, in the office) when I saw it. I am holding myself from buying the yarn online immediately. So beautiful. Lucky recipient!

The blanket/stole is fantastic! It looks just like a professional "stager" placed it on that chair. I'll take the whole look, please.

All your gifts are wonderfully done and must have been so appreciated by the recipients!
