Res Completa: Latte Baby Coat

We've just returned from a lovely but busy three-city tour of the East Coast (mom's birthday trip, Thanksgiving, wedding)...and I'm exhausted.  However, I did give myself the 10 days off and didn't work on a single pattern or design.  (Except in my head...can't stop that from happening.)  And in that sense, I'm feeling quite refreshed!

Of course, I couldn't give up knitting altogether, so I took some items from my queue -- the lovely Levenwick cardigan by Gudrun Johnston, as well as the remainder of this adorable little coat I'd started before we left so Daniel would have something special and warm to wear for his first Thanksgiving with his dad's side of the family.

This is the Latte Baby Coat by Lisa Chemery. And I love it.The size 2T-3T (with hood, but without pockets) took less than a skein of Cascade Eco Wool (color Black) and knit up very quickly on size 10 and 10.5 needles.  I love the basketweave stitch detail (which you can't really see in this photo because the yarn is so dark) and the four little buttons.  It's very warm, so Daniel would only wear it when it was quite cold out, but I did manage to snag this one picture after bribing him with Cheerios and bubbles (not seen).  I love baby knits like this -- sweet, but still look a little bit like mini versions of grown-up clothes.

Wasn't Daniel just born?? I can't believe he's standing up on his own. He looks adorable in his sweater.

great project! i really like the weave-like stitch, such a perfect detail. i miss those little knits, my wee folk are all bigger than me now and the youngest is only 10, geez...i am very tempted to make little girl patterns bigger for myself just because they are so darn cute. LOL!

Ha! This made me giggle. I hardly ever knit other people's patterns these days, but I'm totally working on this exact same coat in the exact same yarn for my little niece. Mine's dark purple, although it looks black most of the time. :-)
