Res Completa: An Unoriginal Hat

Yes, another hat. And since hats were the knitting theme of this month, I thought I'd wrap things up on Feb. 29th with what may be my favorite of the bunch.

Pattern: An Unoriginal Hat, by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee
Yarn: Malabrigo Merino Chunky, 3/4 skein of Brillante
Needles: US 11 dpns
Start to Finish: I can't remember the exact dates, but it took, like, one night
Mods: I can't remember this exactly either, but I did something like leave out rows 8-10 in the second pattern repeat to make the hat slightly shorter.

In the beginning, though I thought the hat was cute when I first saw it on Yarn Harlot, I had no plans to make it. Then, one fateful evening I was waiting in line to check out at Imagiknit, and while the clerk was counting the 800 balls of cotton the lady in front of me was trying to purchase, I spotted a lovely hank of Malabrigo. Actually, it spotted me. I tried to look away, but not only was it staring holes into the back of my head, it was also talking to me!

"Buy me...buuuyyyy meeeeee..."

I went over to say hello, I picked it up, and I almost want to eat it it was so luscious. After deliberating for many minutes (the lady in front of me was taking FOREVER, and I think it is for this reason they put the Malabrigo RIGHT by the checkout line!), I finally threw it in my basket and shoved it up on the counter before I could change my mind again. By the time I got home, I had remembered the Unoriginal Hat, and was totally stoked to make it.

And I'm still stoked to wear it! It's now my go-to ski hat. Here are some pics I love, which also happen to feature this hat:

Myself, my parents, and my awesome, 9 year-old, totally bilingual cousin Julian. Upon inspecting this photo, I realized that 100% of the ski poles pictured were purchased in the 1980's. Yay hand-me-downs!

I love this part of California!

Neill totally freaked when I asked him for the camera then started taking pictures of myself while on the chairlift. As if I would actually drop it!
