In Stitches (West)

This past weekend, Sophy, Erica, and I, plus the addition of Brenda (blogless), a new and very cool knitting buddy, piled into my car and made the trek down to Santa Clara for Stitches West. I went on at length about Stitches last year, it being my first "knitting convention" and all, and have to say that this year was just as magical. A major highlight was getting to meet Chris of Pursuit of Fiber in propria persona - we have been following each other's blogs for about a year now and it was wonderful to see her in real life and not just from a computer screen. Also, some major, major purchases were made. In light of the current economic crisis, I have taken it upon myself to provide a stimulus-like support to any and all vendors of hand-dyed yarn. Noble, right? Anyway, you can see Sophy's acquisitions here (and read about the fun from her perspective here). And once again, it was thrilling to be in the company of thousands of other knitters, knowing without saying a word that we shared a common love, and shoving them out of the way to get to the Tess Designer Yarns booth--er, I mean, appreciating that our love for the fiber arts had brought us together that day...

I sadly misplaced the camera and couldn't find it before I left, so below are some slightly blurry iPhone photos that document the day's events:

Meeting Chrispy!

Me taking a picture of Sophy taking a picture of Erica. I particularly like the knitter in the background waiting for us to get out of the way and, in the meantime, gazing longingly at Erica.

Sophy and Brenda modeling some purchases. Note that our shopping bags from Webs this year are much larger than last year.

Erica with some Girl Scout cookies she bought and DID NOT OPEN!

Sophy and I demonstrating that it is indeed possible to buy a skein of yarn as big as one's head.

'Til next year!

Lovely sweater! I bet you felt pretty cool walking around in that! Ah, Tess's Designer Yarns - was the line as slow this time as last year?

looks like you had a great time! I'm sort of envious I've never gone to a Stitches, but my pocketbook is glad. And that Bohus is pretty much the most beautiful thing ever--how did I miss your earlier post about it? wow.
