Better

Thank you all so much for your warm well-wishing last week. I think all the happy thoughts kicked my immune system up a notch and I was able to start knitting a little bit the day after my post. And by the weekend, I was on a project-finishing rampage that could not be stopped, including, but not limited to, the following:

A couple of those just needed to be blocked, one's brand new, another needed the brim and a few inches ripped back then the brim reknit...the scarf needed a few more inches knit (I had ripped out half of it to make Ishbel, then had some of the yarn left over...it was bothering me so I reknit the end of the scarf with the leftover yarn and reblocked it). Not pictured are a sweater that needed a couple inches and some finishing as well as the only sweater I have ever made Neill which didn't fit right and had needed some fixes (*cough*for the past two and a half years*cough*). I'm telling you, I was on fire. I was coughing, sniffling, and in pyjamas, but I was on fire. It felt great to check those things off the to-do list.

I'm still not feeling 100% back to normal, but, characteristic of my healthy self, I have been obsessing over what my next project should be all week. (Well, I know it should be something that will be given as a Christmas gift, but that's no fun.) I can't stop thinking about Philigry's Amanda Sweater....or this, the Not-A-Poncho City Cape from Custom Knits.

Any thoughts on knitted capes? Cool? Insane?

That's some SERIOUS knitting productivity. Can't wait to see details on everything, as well as Neill's sweater.

Hmmm... I have mixed feelings on knitted capes. I was very excited about them until they popped up as a joke on 30 Rock. Then again, I just saw one in the latest Garnet Hill catalog, and it was SO cute.

capes to me are a meh. I have seen people wear capes and pull it off really well. But for me, I'm only 5" tall capes are heaving and make me look shorter.
I think if you really want a cape, then knit a cape and wear it with confidence!!

Wow, you've been productive! Great to hear you're starting to feel yourself.
I find capes to be drafty when outside and not that warm. The Wrapigan would be great though. Katie's sweater is gorgeous.

Glad to hear you're better! Those FOs look like you've at least used your time well. Hope there was some good TV too. (and really, that toddy did work - if your throat is still sorre) Wish me luck, since we're going in on the front end with Zoe today....

the cape is way cool.

I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better. Seems as though it's ended up well, in that you've been on the UFO vanishing spree!
I've eyed several capes for a long time - many of the patterns are very beautiful and tempting. I think though, as a person of mixed human/hobbit heritage, my stature doesn't allow for them. For others who may be more statuesque, the cape can indeed be done quite fashionably.

Wow! Some great productivity going on. That is the one thing I love about being sick is having the time to just sit and knit.

that's the best kind of staying at home sick- you're still able to do knitting! looks like a tonne of productivity, great job!!

I don't know how I feel about knitted capes. Or non-knitted capes. They can definitely work if you've got the right accessories and aplomb to carry it off! And really, how different is a poncho and a cape? And everyone seems to have worn a poncho.

I've been telling Nick that capes are coming for, like, two years, and they are definitely here. If you're going to do one, now's the time!

I'm on the fence about capes too--they definitely need to be worn with confidence and accessorized properly--not thrown over your entire body and backpack so that you look like some sort of hump-backed peddler. (Yes, I am still traumatized by the social damage done by my Ren-Faire-loving older sister in high school...)

My main concern about a knitted cape is whether or not it would stretch out of shape. In that sense, is it practical, or not?

Your UFOs look like little goblins getting ready for Halloween :)

I love the cape and that sweater is really fab too. You can't go wrong either way!

Great news that you are feeling better.

I had a 5'4" friend who looked GREAT in a cape. I on the other hand - also 5'4" - look dwarfed in too much fabric. It's in the proportions, I guess. Try one on in a store and see how they look on you -- the one in Custom Knits is perfect, especially the finishing -- if they work for you. I'm anxious to see. Good luck!

oh, one more wrap that I saw and loved (i know you are talking about capes here, but aren't they kind of similar?) anyway, the anthro inspired wrap by lucky knitter is awesome.

Wow, you have been mega-productive in spite of being mega-under-the-weather! That is pretty amazing! I love every onbe - are they for you or some holiday gift giving?

Take care and get well!!
