Res Completae: Baby Stuff (on an actual baby)

So this motherhood thing is pretty amazing. I don't know quite how to put it into words (though that could also be the sleep deprivation), but bonding with Daniel and watching him grow over the past month has been the craziest, most wonderful thing ever. I was surprised to find that Neill and I could be so adaptable regarding the sleep changes -- sure we have the odd night where little D wakes up every hour and a half and all I can do the next day is sit and stare at the wall, but that's why we have maternity leave in the beginning -- and also surprised to find that 99% of my mental capacity has now been taken up by baby-related thoughts. I'm forgetting things, responding to phone calls a week late, walking into a room and getting distracted by baby blankets that need to be folded while completely blanking on why I had entered the room in the first place. A few minutes ago I found a baby hat in a drawer and I have absolutely no recollection of receiving it, let alone who gave it to us. For someone who still picks up a dish and remembers exactly which guest from our 250-person wedding gave it to us five years ago, this is unusual. I just hope I sent a thank-you note.

Anyhoo, it ends up that I have a child who does not love playing dress up (making me wonder if he's really mine!), but I was able to grab a few photos of him wearing some of the little things I made him while I was pregnant. I took these less than 2 weeks ago, but he already seems twice as big. (Also crazy: the baby time warp. Where does the time actually go, anyway?!)

Most of the hats I made don't quite fit him yet, but we've been getting tons of use out of the small-sized Sweet Norwegian Baby Cap:

And here's a tiny Cubba I made with Tess' Baby Bunny (procured at Stitches West):

(photo obtained after the following protest:)

("Stop taking my picture, mom!")

Also some of Rae's Newborn Baby Pants (great pattern by the way):

I made these from one of Neill's old shirts and lined them at the bottom with a cute animal print. Sadly, these hardly fit my little guy anymore.

I hope to get back into a more regular pattern of blogging because I have much more to show, but we'll see if the baby and my spaced-out baby brain let me.

Also -- thank you all so much for the incredibly warm welcome you gave Daniel two posts ago. I have saved all of your wonderful comments in a special folder to show the little guy when he gets older. I just wish I could respond to every single one to let you know how much they meant to me. Thank you.

aww, he's so adorable!! Love those little hats on him, and those baby pants are so cute. Your memory will return, I'm sure of it! It must be such a huge, but wonderful adjustment to a new way of living. :)

Look at those FEETSIES! Okay, Mommy moment. LOL.

I still have the post-pregnancy dummies as I have been calling them. It has gotten better, but my little one is 5 months today and I was assuming I'd be back to normal by now.

He's so tiny and precious!!! He also looks incredibly relaxed to me - nice trait compliments of his Scandinavian genes if you ask me :)

Oh Hilary! my ovaries are in a twist looking at these pictures! Daniel is beautiful and I totally understand what you mean about the time warp. Since having my three, I am still trying to figure that out. I hope your maternity leave is very long...:)

You're making me miss those first days. Elise just turned five months and I really can't believe how fast time goes. The fist month or two didn't seem that way... now I'm just wondering where the time went. She got her first tooth yesterday and predict crawling within the month. Seriously?? When did this happen?!?

So cute! And I know all about that brain. I have wonderful toys and no idea where they came from. I wish i knew so I could tell the gift giver that eamon loves them. Oh well. Hopefully I wrote a note.

Daniel is adorable! As are the hats and pants. What a lucky little guy!

What a cutie pie!

I am making some small baby booties (even though I don't have a baby)...along with two or three other projects. I don't know what got me in the mood to make them, just something I put down a while ago, and now I am picking them back up.
