The Atmos Vest

You may or may not remember that back in August I had a design included in Knit Picks'  Reclaimed collection for Fall 2013. If not, here she is, my Atmos Cardigan:

Atmos is a long cardi with pockets and little puff sleeves, and you can read more about the history behind it here.  But, to make a long story short, I had knit a whole Atmos back in 2009 in different yarn, so when I knitted up the version in Wool of the Andes Bulky, it was similar enough that I had two practically identical versions of the same sweater. I didn't particularly want two identical sweaters, nor did I want to part with either of them, and I had already done all that knitting. So what's a knitter to do? I made it a vest.

Now, my version of this vest involved ripping out everything from the collar to the second cable repeat and reknitting the armholes, but the way I'll explain it is as if you're starting from scratch.

Cast on. (Duh.) Work the pattern exactly as written, stopping after you've repeated the Diamond Cable chart two times (rather than three).  Follow the rest of the pattern as written, but skip the sleeves. Easy as pie!

I figure I used 5 skeins of Wool of the Andes Bulky for my size (32.25"), rather than the 6 needed for the full-length version.

If you'd like to make your own Atmos Cardigan or vest, you can find the pattern on the Knit Picks website here or on Ravelry here.

Love both versions of this pattern. Those giant cables are so crisp and perfect.
